Biographical notice
Robert M. SMITH was
born in 1948 and raised in Ottawa. He dropped out in 1967, hitch-hicked
across Canada and Europe, partaking in the Revolution everywhere, and finally
completing a B.A. in French literature in 1969. A true child of the
sixties, he lived in Greenwich Village and Berkeley, California.
Returning to university in 1980, he became a translator and is now raising
a family in Montreal. Robert SMITH has published in literary magazines
and is known for his books. Poems & Tales from the River Styx
is a testimony for a whole generation which is now aging, but still very
much alive and kicking. It explores themes such as death, alcoholism,
exploitation in factories, violent revolution, as well as Robert's own
excentric brand of spirituality. Definitely wicked adult reading!
